Into The Woods - Club Outing

The March outing to Creagh Wood Hide

It was an early start with no messing about. Straight into the hide at Creagh Wood.

Weather was brutal—cold, wet, wind cutting through everything. Not ideal, but that’s part of it. You don’t get to pick the conditions in wildlife photography.

The squirrels were nowhere to be seen at the start. Long wait. Just sitting, watching, listening. You start questioning it—wrong day? wrong time? But that’s the game.

While waiting, a jay landed in—sharp, alert, gone as quick as it came. Then the woodpecker showed up, steady and focused. Enough to keep the camera busy and the mood up.

We had the bait—hazelnuts, monkey nuts— apples, trying to tempt the red squirrels in. Took its time, but eventually two appeared. Slow at first, cautious. Then the cameras clicked and we got our shots.

The craic in the hide helped pass the time. Bit of banter, shared patience. Flasks of coffee even a hot water bottle and a heater.

Another enjoyable club Outing..
