Safari....so good!

Our 2nd club night was held on the 1st October, with a noticeable closing in of the evenings. But that didn't stop a fabulous turnout for our first guest speaker of the year, Tim Feherty of Feherty Photography.

Tim spent quite a number of years as Manager of Photography for African Impact - a South Africa Conservation Project and we were all enthralled by his story.

He spoke about his time with the project and showed us so many incredible images of the South African wildlife that he had captured, while giving us some of the backstory to the shots. We learned about life on a South African wildlife reservation and all that goes into being a photography guide to visitors on safari. His snaps of giraffes, lions, hyenas, elephants, and many more are truly fantastic.

Tim also managed to include ways to improve our wildlife photography. Granted we don't have the same subjects to capture here in Northern Ireland, but he got us to see that photographing a baby elephant isn't that different from photographing a baby bird. If you have your settings right and a lot of patience, you should get a great shot. What impressed a lot of members was Tim's approach to ethical wildlife photography. He fully respects the animal's boundaries and habitat, taking the stance that if the subject didn't want to come out or be seen, he doesn't push.

We all thoroughly enjoyed Tim's talk. It was extremely educational and visually stunning and Raw can't thank him enough for giving up his time.
