Our first monthly outing of the year was to Ash Farm Racing, Loughgall.
It was a brilliant afternoon full of fast action and lots of great shots (and probably twice as many missed ones!). This is definitely something some of us never would have tried if it wasn't for Raw.
A few members were new to sports photography, but a couple of the more experienced photographers were on hand to help. We got to practice with fast shutter speeds and getting the perfect angle ready for when the bikes were in the air, mid jump. Also, switching between manual and autofocus was interesting to see which one worked out best. Telescopic lenses were our friend here, with some members sporting zoom capabilities of 600mm! Certainly needed to avoid crossing paths with a speeding dirtbike!
The riders at Ash Farm were awesome and if they were nervous with 5 cameras pointing at them, they didn't show it! They gave us a great display with lots of movement and jumping, and the smaller kids were equally as impressive. Absolutely no fear! It was quite thrilling just to stand and watch them. The resident Labrador, Bear was on hand to make sure everything was running like clockwork, and he threw a bit of modelling time in with some of the Club members.
All in all, it was a great learning experience and a super fun day. We all had a blast. Thanks to Eleish for organising and thanks Ash Farm for having us.
